Richard McLaurin took over the day-to-day operations of the recording studio from the legendary piano and keyboard player David Griggs (Elvis Presley) several years ago. Richard McLaurin brings not only his music production and recording engineer expertise to the studio, but he also brings his musicianship as a multi-instrumentalist as well as technical ability with electronics. When he's not hands-on behind the API console at House of David, you'll find him downstairs in his shop, tinkering about happily in a mess of electronics and wires.
The vintage API console in House of David recording studio has been used on many famous hit records. It was custom painted to match the original owner's briefcase. House of David is also probably the only recording studio on Music Row that has a trap door that was built exclusively for Elvis Presley. Founder David Briggs built the trap door that goes from the ground level garage up through the floor of the live room so that Elvis Presley could pull his car into the garage and come up into the studio without having to walk outside and up through the outdoor stairs.
